So what have I been up to lately? Well, roughly 1.5 years ago, I started looking into game development. I wanted to try something different than what I’ve used before for coding.
I’m old, so I’ve been through C and C++, Java 4 and more, so I wanted to try something else.
The choice fell on Unity and C#, eventhough unity started do all kinds on wierd pricing then.
I switched from PHP and Laravel as my main toolkit, over to C# in a company in Copenhagen called Nordic Insurance Software (or NIS for short… and for the danes, yes… NISserne it’s fun :))
I’ve been here for a year now, so what have I learned? Well, I’ve learned that there is a lot that I still do not know, but there are things I’ve found awesome.
Linq is one of them.
We use this heavily with everything. However, coming from PHP this seems like a hack, without thought of optimisation in the code.
Basically you pull a resultset from the database, then start traversing that resultset using Linq. And you can do all kinds of wierd stuff. Even manipulate what is beeing sent back.
It’s cool the EFCore handles this as well, so it doesn’t actually pull the entire database, then traverse the data 😀
However wierd it feels, it also feels like something that just needs to be there.
